If validation is not ok, the email field is filled with garbage

In some cases when the validation is not correct, the email field gets filled with garbage (something like <script>...). This is caused by the Email Cloaking mambot/plugin that joomla has enabled by default.

To fix it, go to Mambots / Plugins and unpublish the Email Cloaking plugin.
