Payment options are required on free memberships
Normally, payment information shouldn't be requested by RSMembership! when purchasing a free membership. If this does happen, it's most likely because of the following reasons:
1. The membership is using a trial period
If you have actually configured a free trial period and a price for the full membership, the component is going to prompt the user for the payment details that will be later used when upgrading to the membership's full version.
2. Renewals are enabled and have a price set
In the same manner as the first case, if you have set up a free membership but configured it to have recurring payments (with a price), the component will ask for the payment details that will be used when automatically renewing the membership.
