Its printing the placeholder instead of the data

If I'm reading your original question correctly it sounds like you are not asking for the {componentname :value} of the components in the email set up.

Here is an example of one that I have set up so you can see one that works.
Recommendation submitted by: {yourname:value}
Information submitted by a member of the following Register(s): {enteredby:value}
Business or Individual: {busi_indi:value}
Name: {name:value}
Address: {address:value}
City: {city:value}
State/Prov./Country: {country:value}
Zip: {zip:value}
Phone: {phone:value}
Email: {Email:value}
Type of Assistance: {typeofassistance:value}
Additional Comments: {addcomments:value}
GPS Location: If no information was provided, the following field will be blank: {lat copy:value}

Each field you create in your form has two placeholders available for the emails:

{field-name:caption} => this returns the caption of the field;
{field-name:value} => this returns the values that was submitted in the field.

If you are not using the correct name of the field, the component will not be able to identify the information that needs to replace the placeholder and will simply send the placeholder in the email. You can find a list of all the available placeholders that can be used in the email by clicking the "Toggle Quick Add" button located on the right side of your screen.
