For what ever reason the editor is non-existent in the form layout area if I dont want to us the built in auto generated form. Does anyone know how to set it up so that I create the form without first editing in an external editor and then pasting into the non-WYSIWYG editor?

Hello,

I can't think of a reason you need a WYSIWYG in the form code generator area.
This just of HTML codes without any style and things like that.

But if you need it you can give feedback and ask for a new function.
People can vote on that and with enough votes they will probably look at it.

I was rather surprised that there was no WYSWIG editor in the form editor. I would love to be able to change text attributes without having to mess with HTML. A bit odd that this is missing as other form generators have it.

Generating form with RSForm!Pro is rather slow and cumbersome as a result.

I had assumed that the pro version would have had this feature.

A simple work around is to open a new article in a separate tab. Write your text and then switch to HTML mode and copy and paste your content into Form.

Very cumbersome, but easy. This way you get all the right attributes and you do not need an external HTML editor.

The reason why there isn't an editor within the Form Layout is that the area isn't meant to be edited without HTML/CSS knowledge. This is why the layout is autogenerated by default - so people don't have to mess with the code. The layout needs to be generated in a certain way (that WYSIWYG editors can't) in order for some of the most important features to work (for example: multi-page forms, conditional fields etc).
