TOPIC: File upload Temp directory says "NO" but it is set

File upload Temp directory says "NO" but it is set 11 years 3 months ago #26303

In my Joomla 3.x site I have several forms that allow uploading a file along with the submission.

When I click on "Diagnose server upload Settings" from the Upload FIle field in my form I get the following:
File Uploads Enabled: Yes
Temporary Directory Set: No
Maximum Number of Uploads: 20
Maximum File Upload Size: 64M
Maximum POST Size: 64M
Memory Limit: 256M

Yet, my tmp folder in Joomla is set and writable. Which tmp directory are we talking about here?

There are another couple of things IO should probably mention as well:

1) My upload repository is above public_html (so that it's not reachable from the web)
2) I have set the submitter so it doesn't get their uploaded files back in the email, yet in the

"Attach file to" filed I can see
User email
Admin email
additional email

I would like to delete "User email" from that list but I don't know how.

Thank you for your kind help.

You have to select from the list who receives the upload as an attachment - it isn't that everyone in the list receives the attachment - they are just possible recipients and will receive it if you select them.

If you don't select anyone the e-mails that have the upload field will include a link to download the attachment but not an actual attachment.

So if you don't want users to receive the attachment:

a. don't highlight them in that list
b. make sure the user e-mail doesn't have the upload field in it.

RSJoomla says my temp dir is not set - but the attachments still work.

Followed all the instruction, but still can't get my settings to save .. as getting same error as above.

How do we make the file uploads work?

Thx, Max

Check your Joomla! temp folder in the General Settings and make sure it's writable.

Finally I found the solution in my case at least...

On the attributes table there is "Accepted extensions (each on a new line)". In earlier version you put in there i.e. ".zip". This does not work any longer, you have to put "zip" without the dot.

I have to say that I'm thoroughly upset that after my subscription has expired, the upload feature no longer works. Does this mean I have to buy support again in order to get the file upload feature working? This is pretty darn bad. This kind of feature should not be impossible to use. No matter what the heck I do, I will always get 'Invalid Input'. I can modify directory permissions in RSForms Pro, doesn't matter. I can make sure admin email is selected, doesn't matter. The tmp folder is writable. I add 'Accepted Files' extensions, and doesn't matter (both with and without '.'). I've gone to the /public_html/components/com_rsform/uploads/ directory to make sure it's writable, and sure enough 755. I've even gone so far as to upgrade the darn component. Nothing. Same problem.

This is pretty bad when I've used this script for over 4 years, and I cannot find information on this issue at all. I don't typically use file upload due to security reasons, but some of my clients need it.

The last post left here did not solve my problem.

I understand there can be problems with using scripts, but are you serious that the Upload file feature has to be such a pain in the rear to use????????? I'm on the verge of getting another extension for form submissions. If I do that, I won't ever be going back to RSJoomla. I like your products, but wasting more than an hour of my time on such a simple feature is just not acceptable. Why do you have to make this such a pain? This should work out of the box, minus any folder permissions which I understand can be an issue from time to time. It clearly doesn't.

The status of your subscription has nothing to do with the fact that the upload isn't working. Yes, you need an active subscription if you would like to receive official customer support.

This is usually caused by server side restrictions not by something RSForm!Pro related.

As far as I can tell all you have to be careful about is to actually select one or more recipient types (User Email, Admin Email or Additional Emails) at the Atribute tab in the "File Upload". In order to be able to select any of these you must have first setup these recipient details on the Properties section (Components/Properties at the top of the form). Only then you will be able to select one or more recipient types on the Attribute tab in "File Upload" settings. YOu can select one or more by holding the ctrl key while selecting more than one type.

Hope it helped anyone. The other thing about "Temporary Directory Set: No" is irrelevant in my opinion.
there are 10 types of people when it comes to binary, the ones who understand and the ones who does'nt!

The temp directory RSForm is checking against is the PHP temp directory, not the Joomla one. PHP uses a default location if it is not manually set so you are typically OK as long as it is writeable. You can, however, set it yourself in your php.ini file like this:

upload_tmp_dir /some/writeable/path

I's just like to say that I came here with what I thought was the same issue, but the reality is my solution was the same as 'markmaps' and it worked after removing the . from the .jpg. This is a little frustrating in that the default examples are.jpg etc. If anything, the default should also include extensions without the . to cover this off.

In case anyone is searching this and has been struggling to find the answer like me, I think I found the issue. In the attributes of the upload field type, try adding the file path to the temp directory.

In my case, it was set to a rs forms upload path. Their support kept telling me the temp directory wasn't set, even though it appeared to be set in my site server settings. My host kept telling me they can't update php.ini on my shared server.

So I added:
/home/yoursitefolder/public_html/tmp in the upload path.

And lo and behold, files now upload again.
