The dreaded black line that appears at the top and bottom of every submission pdf in RSForm Pro is still an ongoing problem for me and I suspect for many other RS Joomla subscribers. On a Google search I found dozens of offers on how to fix the problem of the the annoying RSForm TCPDF black line and the most common solution on offer -
$pdf->setPrintHeader(false);
$pdf->setPrintFooter(false);
simply does not work!

So far, I have been unable to find a lasting solution to this problem.

A search on this forum shows that the black line on pdf submissions has been a problem for a long time and yet it continues to irritate in the latest version of TCPDF, as endorsed by RS Joomla.

It is perfectly normal when creating new documents of any kind, whether a text document, MS Word, spreadsheet ...or pdf, to start with a completely blank page. If I wrote a letter by hand I would certainly not get my ruler out and start drawing black lines at the top and bottom of each page, that would be ridiculous!

So why then, after all these years, does the RSForm Submission pdf still have that annoying black line at the top and bottom of the page when the norm would be to start with a blank pdf page and only add a black line, or any other object, as the need arises!

This black line does not appear on the pdf attached to an RSForm email so why should it invade the pdf file on the RS Form submisions pdf!

I would interested to know how many RSForm Pro subscribers have raised a ticket about this issue of the black line and ...being a known issue, why it has still not been addressed by RS Joomla developers or the TCPDF developer.

I do accept that the black line is not a RSForm specific issue, as I understand it, it is an issue specific to TCPDF. However, it becomes a RSForm Pro issue when RS Joomla endorses and encourages the use of TCPDF as a means of enhancing the flexibility of RSForm pdf files.

I am not a coder by any stretch of the immagination but to me it would seem sensible for RS Joomla developers to either -

  • edit the offending files in the TCPDF bundle, set 'Example 2' as the default and offer this as a zipped download from the RS Joomla web site in preferrence to the TCPDF zip at GitHub, or -

  • Create a help page on RS Joomla providing clear guidance on editing and/or setting a blank page pdf in tcpdf.php (or the relevant file) or,

  • Create a Youtube video for the above, or

  • Extend the funtionality of RSform Pro to enable users to select and load one of the example pages provided in tcpdf/examples/
It seems to me that doing nothing to resolve this long standing issue of the black lines on RSForm submissions, while continuing to endorse and encourage the use of TCPDF, would be counter-productive and could risk damaging the reputation of what is otherwise a great product.

Rant over.
