TOPIC: RSFirewall destroyed my site

RSFirewall destroyed my site 14 years 1 week ago #13315

Hello
Today I innstalled RSFirewall and a few hours later my site was destroyed. The first things that happened was that many of the links give a 500 error. Then I decide to uninnstall it which was a bad idea, because now the site was destroyed and all content go to left. I innstalled it again and suddenly the content at my site was back to normal....but still many links give 500 error

Obviously the problems is caused by RSFirewall..I must say I am very dissapointed

Hello,

This is was most likely generated because of a php.ini setting. Please disable the newly created php.ini file and see if this will restore the previous behavior of your site.

Gotta say I agree. Revert to the original php.ini file and keep running RS Firewall. I have had similar issues with the PHP.ini files causing 500 errors and other issues, and so now just skip that part of the setup. RSJoomla would be smart to disable that, because it seems to cause problems for people, and is such a small piece of the security improvement this component offers, its a shame to see it turn users aways 9read the review on the JED. RSFirewall would have a perfect 5 star rating if not for this php.ini issue...).

Not sure what your server setup is but you should try selectively disabling parts of the php.ini to see what is causing the problem. Use the semicolon to disable lines in the php.ini file. In my opinion the php.ini is important because it disables certain functions which hackers can use to take over your website. It also restricts areas which people can access.

Thanx for answers :)

I reinstalled the whole site, and this time I dont get problems. Maybe because I skip the php part of setup

But after running RSFirewall I got wrong messages about this 4 settings
open:basedir is not used
allow_url_fopen is on
disable_function is not used
Temp file is accesible through the public_html

And I wonder what is the point to have this settings when RSFirewall dont now if it is correct ??? My security is now 84% but this number make no sense when RSFirewall just guessing about some settings

Are you sure your local php.ini is being read?

If your server uses suPHP then you should have something like this in your .htaccess file:

suPHP_ConfigPath /home/myaccount/public_html

to make sure the local php.ini is being used.
