RSFirewall! works, installs and updates correctly, as proved by our thousands of customers who are using it without any issues.
"There was an error uploading this file to the server." is related to your server settings. Common solutions are:
1) Setting a correct Temp Folder in your Global Configuration. If you are using UNIX, try /tmp. If you are using open_basedir in php.ini, add the /tmp path to the open_basedir directive.
2) Correct permissions on the Temp Folder so that the server can upload files there (this usually means 755, but insecure hosts will need 777, just remember to set it back to 755 after you're done uploading/installing).
3) Correct permissions on the following folders and its subfolders/files:
/components/com_rsfirewall
/administrator/components/com_rsfirewall
/plugins/system/ and /plugins/system/rsfirewall if you are using Joomla! 1.6+

If you are still having issues or do not understand the steps above, just submit a support ticket and we'll help you debug your server and install RSFirewall!

I've having the exact same issue with r35 & Joomla! 2.5.1 (the instructions didn't work)... but I have a solution.
The error I was getting was that Joomla! was unable to find the install file.
btw, r34 installs fine for me.

I uploaded com_firewall.zip to my website via FTP, so I had a URL like:
Then, instead of using the Upload Package File option (to install), I used the Install from URL option instead.

The installation worked perfectly... just how r34 used to (when installed either way) on the same website.

Perfect result!

Don't you just hate it when someone comes back with an answer like that gees man do you think we are stupid. I have installed rsfirewall over 100 times since you first brought it out, I created over 1000 Joomla sites don't tell a monkey how to suck eggs.

It clearly did not work for some of us and therefore there was an issue. If you are going to treat us like idiots then we can take our money else where.

I would have expected a more civilised answer then the one you have posted. I have to seriously think my subscriptions with you after this. I am deeply offended. :evil:

Re: Can't install RSFirewall 13 years 2 months ago #16381

I have always been able to update the component for 3 years, and this is the first time where the installation process fails.

I havent' changed the Server configuration, and therefore hoped for a solution to my problem. I have followed the steps, with no success.

The URL or Directory installation doesn't work for me. I get an error message:

Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Path does not have a valid package.

Any other effective solution for this?

Re: Can't install RSFirewall 13 years 2 months ago #16389

Ok, I solved this one at last.
I sent a ticket and was helped.

My problem was that my upload limit is 2Mb, and rev35 size is a little over 2Mb.

What I did was increasing the upload limit, following these indications.

I Had the same issue while upgrading to the latest version

To resolve it I disabled the default php.ini file and created a new one with the following parameters

allow_url_fopen = On
upload_max_filesize = 3M

I was able to install successfully. Ensure you revert to the default php.ini file immediately after installation

Cheers!

I had this issue when trying to upgrade RSFirewall. I got this error message:
There was an error uploading this file to the server.
Unable to find install package
This error happened on every extension I tried to add.

I checked out the fix the moderator of the RSForum provided, did some more checking and found this problem:

The maximum file size was to small and a tmp directory had to be set in the php.ini file in Joomla 2.5 version Root. With HostGator, this should have been able to be changed with the "php.ini EZConfig" in the Control Panel. But that did not work.

Solution for file size limitation :
Add these two lines to Joomla Root php.ini file
upload_max_filesize = 10M
post_max_size = 10M

If that does not fix it you may want to try adding these two lines to the .htaccess file:
php_value upload_max_filesize 10M
php_value post_max_size 10M

*Note - the php fix worked for me so I did not use the .htaccess fix

Solution to set tmp directory via Joomla Root php.ini
Add this line using the proper path.
upload_tmp_dir = /home/Whatever/public_html/tmp

That fixed it for me.
