TOPIC: allow_url_fopen

allow_url_fopen 10 years 10 months ago #27894

I'm a bit confused.

I run 2 Joomla sights with the same host and I use RSFirewall on both sites. 1 site currently is using Joomal 2.5 the other Joomla 3.3

RS Firewall installed and works fine in my Joomla 2.5 site. I had to create a new php.ini file for this but apart from after that all was fine.

I've just installed RSFirewall on my Joomla 3.3 site and again it said I needed to create a new php.ini file as it said that allow_url_fopen is On.

So the new php.ini file it created switched that off. However now when I go to the RSFirewall Components main page I get these error messages:

Warning: XMLReader::open() [xmlreader.open]: http:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=0 in /home/peakover/public_html/libraries/joomla/feed/factory.php on line 44

Warning: XMLReader::open(feeds.joomla.org/JoomlaSecurityNews) [xmlreader.open]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /home/peakover/public_html/libraries/joomla/feed/factory.php on line 44

Warning: XMLReader::open() [xmlreader.open]: Unable to open source data in /home/peakover/public_html/libraries/joomla/feed/factory.php on line 44

Googling these errors says that the cause of this is that allow_url_fopen has been disabled and that Joomla needs it enabled to be able to check for updates. Sure enough if I then enable it, the errors go away but then RSFirewall says it should be off when it does a System Check.

Which should it be/Is there a way to fix this?

For my server running Joomla 3.3.6....

Go to Components>RSFirewall>RSS Feeds.

You will see a feed url for feeds.joomla.org/JoomlaSecurityNews

Unpublish it.
