I'm wanting to add a few custom fields to my events, some of which will be drop downs others will be input text. Please advise what files I must modify to integrate completely. (I plan on adding a few fields to the database as well under the events table). Thanks

In this case modifications aren't necessary as this can be achieved by simply creating a custom registration form with the RSForm!Pro - RSEvents!Pro integration plugin:

Please keep in mind that this plugin will require you to have both an RSForm!Pro and an RSEvents!Pro license.

After looking clooser at your recomendation, I'm not sure it accomplishes what I'm looking for. Let me explain a bit. I have events that will not require any registration. My events aside from using the standard fields like name, date, category, description, etc will also need to have fields for additional custom things such as Award Type, Age Groups, Tournament Type, Referees, etc.

Please advise how I can acomplish this, thanks.

If you are referring to the backend event creations/edit form, then I'm afraid there isn't any built-in way of adding extra fields to this form.

This can be achieved only by performing heavy modifications on the component source code and database, which we strongly advise against.

A simple workaround solution would be to just include your desired extra information in the event's description.
